America The Beautiful, FOR ALL!
Friends of the Inyo, GreenLatinos and dozens of community-led organizations are calling on the U.S. Department of Interior, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to:
🎟️ Provide an America the Beautiful National Parks & Federal Recreational Lands Pass as a “Welcome to America” gift to each newly naturalized citizen at swearing-in ceremonies;
💳 Consider the barriers that cashless entry to National Parks and other recreational sites impose on unbanked individuals; and
🦅 Cooperate to host swearing-in ceremonies for naturalized citizens on public land recreation sites.
This proposal is an effort to instill a sense of pride for public lands among new naturalized citizens and dismantle the barriers that communities of color, low-income communities and immigrants face when attempting to access National Parks and other federal recreation lands.
Why is this important?
As outdoorists, we know that our public lands have provided us with breathtaking views and our favorite places to adventure and play in. Why not welcome new citizens with the opportunity to visit these beautiful spaces free of charge?
This initiative not only promotes new connections to our public lands, but also aims to reduce barriers that many communities of color and low-income communities face when looking to get outside.
We absolutely love this initiative and the work it will do at the intersections of planet, inclusion, and adventure!
