Clif Bar Athlete Team Takes The Oath
In the Spring of 2023, we received a unique invitation from our friends and supporters at Clif Bar. They’ve supported our mission through meaningful support since our early days, and now, they’ve taken their commitment to the next level by offering the Oath Workshop to their athlete team!
Later that spring, amidst blooming poppies and green rolling hills, co-founder José Gonzales and I joined Clif staff, partners, and athletes for their annual Clif Athlete + Partner Summit in the sunny Napa Valley of California. Every iteration, the Summit presents participants with opportunities to build strong connections with each other, engage in personal development, and share lessons from their mission-driven work. The latter is what we appreciate the most, because the team at Clif Bar not only encourages, but supports their athlete team in giving back to their communities through mission-driven work. The Oath came in as a bridge between both personal development and mission-alignment.
We enjoyed facilitating our Outdoorist Oath workshop in an outdoors setting for all participants, several of whom had already taken the Oath (we see you Clif staff!!) or were a founding member (we see you too Tommy!!). What made it extra special for us too, was we were able to include embodied activities and small group interactions that we don’t get to practice during our Zoom sessions. The athlete team was very engaged and shared very insightful thoughts and lessons from their personal experiences.
In addition to the Oath Workshop, we got to participate in several other activities with participants at the intersections of joy, DEI work, and community impact. We’re super grateful to have had the opportunity to bring our workshop to such a welcoming and eager-to-get-to-work-for-positive-impact space. As athletes, these folks do amazing work in taking adventure to the limits of human possibility, but they also recognize their privilege and power to be agents of change and redefining adventure for everyone.

We organized a group of about 30 Clif athletes and employees for a 2-day camping summit in Napa Valley, with the goal of connecting as a group and sharing our vision for ongoing values-driven work.
